Going to work for 8 hours a day doesn’t have to mean leaving all of your healthy habits at home. There are plenty of ways to stay active, boost productivity and ward off sickness during your daily grind. Here are 11 tips for maintaining a healthy lifestyle in the workplace.
Take the stairs. Skip the elevator and head to the stairwell to burn calories and build muscle.
Drink water. Not only do you need to stay hydrated to keep healthy, those extra bathroom breaks also mean more steps on your fitness tracker.
Take breaks, move and stretch. If you have to, pencil in small breaks throughout the day to get up, walk around and stretch. Taking time to refocus and reinvigorate yourself will help you be more productive and feel less fatigued.
Avoid temptation. The communal candy bowl can be detrimental to all the hard work you put in with diet and exercise. Avoid stress eating by stocking your drawers with light and healthy snacks like almonds or dried fruit.
Good posture. Mom was right when she constantly reminded us to stand up straight. Good posture can help prevent aches and pains at the end of the day. More and more workplaces are adopting small changes like allowing standing desks or more ergonomic chair styles. It never hurts to ask.

Park further away, walk or bike to work. Make your commute part of your exercise routine, especially if you work a sedentary desk job. You may also find that the daily trek helps you wake up on the way in and decompress before you arrive home.
